Laser treatment for gum disease

Scaling and Root Planing has long been the gold standard in periodontal treatment... but studies are showing that non-invasive Laser-assisted Periodontal Therapy provides additional benefits over Scaling and Root Planing alone.

But how does it work!?

Laser energy is transmitted through a thin fiber which is easily inserted into deep periodontal pockets, targeting inflammed tissues and bacteria. Studies have shown reductions in gingival bleeding, reductions in tooth mobility and reduction in loss of attachement around the tooth, and most importantly increased patient comfort during the post-operative healing phase!!!

How will your hygienist use it during your appointment?

The hard tissue side of the pocket (tooth and root surface) is first debrided with ultrasonic scalers and hand instrumentation. This is followed by laser bacterial removal and coagulation of the soft tissue side of the pocket.

Does antibiotic resistance concern you??

With diode laser treatment there is a reduced need for systemic or locally applied antimicrobials. This leads to fewer allergic reactions and less antibiotic resistance.

The oral/systemic link!!

Improved periodontal outcomes are a no-brainer given the well documented periodontal/systemic health links, and we are pleased to be able offer this additional service for patients with deep periodontal pocketing.... call 03 4422711 to enquire about an appointment with our hygienist who can advise you if Laser Treatment is appropriate for you.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
